Timing belt change advice

I've decided to give a stab at doing the timing belt on my old '90 Micra. Now I like to think I'm fairly competent in doing work on cars (I can do alot of DIY servicing myself, and I know the in's and out's of engines fairly well), however, I've never done a timing belt change before.

I'm thinking of replacing the water pump while I'm at it too. I've an Haynes manual and obviously I'll follow that step by step, but I just want to ask is there any general advice or tips I should do while changing it? Thanks.

It would be a wise to change the water pump at the same time yes......

Simple enough job really. See below image......

    I presume its a normal 1.0?
If you have the Haynes then you've should have all the info you need. There is no special tools needed or anything more complicated then removing/refitting bolts.

Definatly replace the water pump when doing the belt and make sure you replace the tensioner too.

    Yeah it's the 1.0L (MA10) engine.

Should be a handy enough job. Thanks for the Autodata images Mr. McGee.

Got a new belt and tensioner from eBay fairly cheap, along with the water pump.
