My mother's car was damaged the other night, outside her house, by some students doing Riverdance on the roof!!!! A local mechanic says the roof will have to be replaced and it may cost €1200. Is there anyone that she can contact about compensation or help with this cost? She has been driving 40+ years and never had a claim before. She's so upset that she'll lose her NCB because of this mindless act of vandalism!!

Does she know the identity of the clowns ?

Or what college they go to ?

Doesn't look good for her prospects...

without being funny, that is part of what she has insurnce for....

Unless the students can be traced it's either own pocket or an insurance job, may not effect the NCB though depending on the policy.

My sister parks her car onstreet near Cork City Centre (her house has no drive, par for the course for a city centre ish house really). It's been keyed and demirrored twice and once a traffic cone has been placed on it  Always on student nights too.

I'd to help repair a classic Mini recently which had a brick thrown at it. Destroyed the bonnet, scuttle panel and windscreen. Students again.

I'd like to point out that while I was in college ( hence a student) my car was vandalised by an "employed"

Luck would have it that I fought him and dragged him by the Adams apple to the local Garda shop where they reprimanded him quite sternly

The desk Sargent told me they have a lot of problems with drunk " employees " around my area

I was a student myself and have nothing against them at all :)

the local I.T is just down the road from her so we get plenty of house parties on our street unfortunately!! Yeah that's what she pays her insurance fro but it's so unfair that she's been penalised because of someone else's stupidity!! Not too many employees around her having house parties.... they can't afford them! was once a student myself, but could always remember my own name and never damaged anyone else's property!
Just thought there was a fund like the MIBI or something?

Scumbags, ****ing scumbags, If ever Ive seen adverts to remove free education.
I had a bunch of pricks try to move my mini in UCD a few years ago, bunch of affluent abercrombie clad ****, ran a mile when I told them to **** off.

Just a point of order, if they were affluent, then removing free education wouldn't make much of a difference.

As for the OP, unless you can find out who it was or get CCTV footage(any of the houses/shops on the street you live have cameras) I don't think you'll have much luck.

@OP - how do you know they were drunk or students?

Also, is it a softtop or how will the roof be replaced for €1200?

On many cars the roof is an actual skin that is welded or rivotted to the actual roof structure, you can pop these off (huge pain in the arse and rarely done) and replace them.

So to replace this bit and re-paint it would cost €1200?

Replacing a roof skin (if an option on the car is question) is an absolute nightmare of a job compared to replaceing a wing. It's way worse than doing a quarter panel. When bodyshops are involved €1200 is not a huge amount to be honest.

That's what I'm thinking - it seems very cheap.

Claim from the insurance. That amount shouldn't effect her policy too much

Extensive roof damage on some cars would be a write off no?

Indeed, however as they are replacing it I can only presume it's the skin they are replacing and the structure below it is fine.

These clowns were affluent, theres plenty of jack asses who aint.
But it would cut down the amount of dossers able to go on the booze midweek during semester. Do a real degree and you wont have the time for that carry on.

I think I heard a story about that a few years ago. Was that in Belgrove by any chance?

Friend of my brother had his car vandalised out near UL a while back. He saw their faces and when he opened the door they ran off. Drove down to the Lodge nightclub later on and the fools were queueing up so he called the guards down. Approached the guy that did it when the guards arrived and he nearly shat his pants. Begged him not to press charges because he was a teacher. He got the money fairly quickly off him then.

I know I'm going a bit OT here, but that's not really fair. Sure, there are some twats that go out and do that sort of ****e and in my opinion they should be found, charged, and at the very least be fu*ked out of college, but to be fair the majority I know go out, have a good time and come home. And doing a "real degree" as you put it makes little difference. Engineers, nurses, doctors, teachers, etc do go out midweek as much as anyone. (in fact, i know some that go out more than most).
