For banks to remain open until about 6 or 7 pm?
    They shouldn't close so early.

I suppose you have to consider staff and security hours, especially late at night.

years ago when the banks had money maybe it was wise to close early but not now when the only thing of value in the bank is the tellys they have

Maybe when you own a bank you can decide it's opening hours.

    Oh, wait a sec...

I think it's a throwback to the old days: the bank would close at 3 or 4 and the staff would stay on to complete their paperwork.

Naturally, all that work is now done instantly on ocmputer. But who'd give up that perk? In fairness they still stay on till about 5 or so but they stop serving customers ridiculously early.

And don't get me started about their 10-10.30 opening...

Banks in the US open on similar hours to supermarket hours. Six days a week.

Why not here? Unions, that's why.

Not sure about that but think it might be an idea for them to take their lunch breaks at times other than 1pm, considering that's the only time that some people get a chance to bank (ie: on their lunch break).

What I want to see is some sort of machine outside of the banks that dispenses my money using some sort of card device.

    That'd never catch on.

But that would shift the focus to a more customer oriented way of doing things. That's just crazy talk. There would be nothing in that for the unions.

I hate banks too - they open late-ish - 10am so you cant go before work/college and close early - 4.30/5pm so you cant go after work/college - you're left to go on your lunch break and queue with the rest of the country and to annoy you even more - your lunch break is the same time as fooking 3 quarters of the bank tellers , so no one is actually there to help ye - its a nuissance!!!

Awful self serving opening hours. I could never understand why banks don't open on times that actually suit working people.

The only people that traditional Bank opening times suit are people on the dole - who don't have much money anyway.

    Stupid.

Or self employed, sole traders etc. Y'know the ones who have a special fast moving queue.

They should close on Mondays and stay open on Saturdays instead.

I can understand what the op is saying.

If you work a 9-5pm job how are you meant to go to the bank at ease?
I mean various post offices in dublin open till 7.30 on thursdays and fridays. There is a reason for that.

Gold bars are bastards to carry around, especially when you've got so many.

We should stop being so hostile towards them.

What about all they've done for this country?

If they were open any longer we'd be really fcuked...

yes, extend their opening hours to make sure the bankers who cripled the country get paid even more

Funny thing is i worked in boi, not a branch but an office building.
We worked 9-5 and guess what even the staff there had problems getting to the bank. This country is old and backward, even looking at some of the replies why would people have a problem with the bank hours shifting a bit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,673 ✭✭✭mahamageehad

In canada i was shocked to find out that you can even go to the bank on a sunday!!! Imagine.

In germany we have late night banks twice a week i think (?) and open saturday. But theres also banklink type things that can also take deposits at any hour.

I used to work doing surveys over the phone and we did one on bank opening hours. 99% just wanted their bank to be open the current, normal opening hours. Very few mentioned wanting them to be open longer.

Really surprised me, but then again, it could be a factor of who's answering surveys..
