Are there any differences between the MG ZTD and the Rover 75 diesel? Engine/gearbox/suspension setup?

Bigger wheels, harder suspension and option of more powerful engine.

Have you driven one? Is it significantly less comfortable than the regular diesel?

Engines are the same so is the gearbox, the 131bhp CDTi was available in both the 75 and the ZT, Paintdoctor or Tragedy would be more knowledgeable on the diesels as I've never owned one. The ZT isn't uncomfortable by any stretch of the imagination despite the very stiff suspension and 18" wheels.

The auto in the ZT diesel may be slightly different with a more agressive S mode but I'm not certain of it.

All engine bits and bobs would be the same.

To be honest I don't really like lots of 75s, some of them look decent enough but poverty spec ones look fairly sh1t.

And of course both the 75 and ZT diesel are plagued by durability and quality issues :pac:

Such a shame you can't get it with the wood/non-bucket seats interior of the connosieur

You can, real wood dash is £50 including all the bits, cream leather seats are regularly around ~£100 in good condition.

Seats on the ZT are great imho, and passengers always find them comfortable.

As for auto differences, afaik the ZT auto is just more sensitive to kickdown and holding on to gears longer when driven hard - ratios etc are the same.

Suspension is almost identical, ZT had stiffer springs/harder dampers, and I think thicker anti roll bar in the rear too.

No difference between brakes either(unless you go for the 190).

If you prefer the interior of a 75, you're as well off just getting one from the UK.

Are you a mechanic Tragedy? Have you seen this conversion done before? Is the wood trim just an insert?

Nope! Rover 75's originally had a real wood dash trim up until around ~2002 I think, then they were replaced with a plastic fake wood trim that didn't quite fit as well. Extremely popular(and cheap!) upgrade for owners to do, seen tens of people do it on the forums.

I think all you need to get the job done is a set of torx heads, screwdrives and brute force.

It's just trim, as you can see here:

That's the airbag module with the airbag dash trim removed.
