Your say your TV receives the digital radio channels which are part of the Saorview service.

Do you receive the following Saorview channels - RTÉ News Now, 3e and two test cards?

If not I suspect your TV is not MPEG-4 compatible for Saorview probably only UK MPEG-2 compatible - radio channels only, no TV channels (check the manual). An attached STB will be required to receive all the Saorview services if that is the case.

The internal aerial may be OK for Saorview from the Three Rock transmitter with the correct receiving equipment (you're receiving the Saorview radio channels).

Yep bout the ton mark alright. The boxes are more or less the exact same due to having to meet the saorview spec. Just the menus looka wee bit different. The main differences are the add-ons that the manufaturers have put in the boxes like the PVR facilities and the media players. Some do each better than the other, check out some reviews here and on google. The main boxes out there now are the Triax TR112, the WP12DTB-R and a new finlux model whose model number escapes me now but you can probably find it on the official saorview site under saorview approved equipment. There is an older walker box on the market too which some retailers may have left over from theri initial batches, they are cheaper again but have no PVR or media player facilities. Basically, they all do more or less the same thing so it wheter you want to shell out the extra few bob for the whistles and bells.

Try out your existing one before you buy another.

These boxes are ~€100 aren't they? Are they all the same or do some have more features than others?

A friend of mine got a Walker STB in a store in Tralee for somewhere between €85-88.

That's probably the old walker without the recording and media player, If it's the new model with the -R at the end of the model number, that's a good price compared to the normal RRP.

I've already posted this question on another forum, without any response. I hope someone can help.
UHF Output channel number from sky box.
I need to output the signal from my sky box to a distribution unit & onto six TV outlets. From my experience, if the chosen channel is too close to a broadcast signal on UHF from any nearby transmitters I end up with interference. I have been able to allocate all the UHF channel numbers from Mulla,Maghera & Knockmoyle except RTÉ ONE & RTÉ TWO, all I can find are "lettered" channels D,G E & H (which I think are only analogue). I understand that one needs a separation of a few channel numbers to eliminate interference.
What I need then are the UHF channel numbers for RTÉ ONE & RTÉ TWO from both Maghera & Mullaghanish.
    Thanks.

Analogue RTÉ 1 & 2 do not transmit from Maghera & Mullaghanish in the UHF Band.

The lettered channels are VHF (Band III) frequencies used at 5 main transmitters (and Monaghan relay) for RTÉ 1 & 2. The two channels were allocated UHF frequencies but it was decided approx 10 years ago not to use them and continue to use the VHF frequencies until ASO. By not using the UHF allocations for analogue RTÉ 1 & 2 it would free up 2 UHF frequencies for DTT planning at 5 main high power sites.

    I posted this 2 years ago - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=59271544

Why not use UHF Ch 69? It's well away from any transmitter in your area.
