    Hi all,

    Going unreg for this.

Basically my girlfriend has just been promoted and im very very happy for her. But it means that we have to uproot and move about 70km away from my hometown. Now usually i wouldnt mind but the problem is that it its further away from work for me (about 20km per trip) but its all motorway so it kinda evens out a bit.

But my major problem is that im moving somewhere where we know nobody. not a single person, so my question is how do you meet people in a new town. Cause im terrified of being there by myself. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm guessing this is your first time living away from your home town :)

Well, first of all (and most importantly) you won't be by yourself, you'll be with your girlfriend. However tough it might be moving to a new town with her, it's nothing like moving to a new town on your lonesome.

After that, you'll just have to do the normal run-of-the-mill things to get to know new people ... meet your neighbours, join clubs/sports teams, FORM a group, socialise, volunteer locally. Really, it's that simple.

And really, you're not that far from your home town, you can visit if you feel sometime you wanna go where everybody knows your name :)

As for the driving distance to work ... I'd rather 50km of motorway than 10km of city traffic!

    Good luck

Nah, there's only a risk of that if you're living in each other's pockets. True, the stress of a move like that can put pressure on a relationship, but if you go into this with a "we're-in-this-together" attitude, you'll get past that part.

Do things together but don't be afraid to do things separately either.
