You'll get a marriage cert and you basically just go about changing your name on bank statements and all that by asking them to do it. Usually involves sending in a written request along with a copy of your marriage certificate.

You don't need to go to a court or anything like that have it "officially" changed.

its that easy?? what about deed poll and all that lark??

Not strictly necessary. A deed poll is a declaration that you are no longer using your old name and you will heretofore be known as your married name. It also means that you get a shiny legal document which you can attach to your borth cert if you're ever asked for that kind of serious proof of identification.

However, strictly speaking you don't need it. As it says in the above link, most people just go ahead and use the new name and it becomes their name through common usage. Even for things like your passport, PPSN, etc, you can put down a different name in certain cases - usually when you can show that you've been using the "new" name or in the case or marriage, etc.

thats the maddest thing ive ever heard!!
so if i want to get a new passport or driving license with my new name, wont they question it?? or is that when i send my marriage cert?

For the passport you will definitely need to show proof of the new name. From what I recall a marriage cert will do just fine. Don't know about driving licence, but I don't recall ever seeing the words "deed poll" in the notes on the form :)

For most purposes a bank statement or a recent bill in your married name will suffice. And bank statements can be changed by written request :)

if i want to change my middle name, is it that easy too?
I want to drop my current middle name, and insert my maiden name there!
