    Where in Blackrock?

Blackrock is a postal district. Stillorgan Industrial Park has Blackrock as a postal address an does Clonkeen Road which goes out as far as Dunnes Stores in Cornelscourt.

ah stop being obtuse for the sake of it.:P Blackrock refers to the village and it's immediate surrounds for 99% of people.

Obtuse? I'm trying to be helpful. People see an address and assume it's correct. I take it you've never looked for an address in "Foxrock" or "Killiney"

yes, but I know where they are and extend to also, but if I was on here asking for somewhere outside of a village I'd name the road.

I lived in "lower" Killiney for 24 years though

    Ballybrack?

Upper Churchview road, which is in the Killiney postal region and so forth but still a bit of a stretch IMO.

"South Killiney" was one I heard a while back.

    All very Ross O'Carroll-Kelly.

Seriously, would you ask a taxi driver to take you to the postal district of blackrock?

Why would you ask for directions to a postal district?

Huh? Surely the 17 to Blackrock is the one to get going to Blackrock?

Dun Laoghaire is simular, if you ask where the Natioonal Rehabilitation Hospital here is their address

    Contact Us

    National Rehabilitation Hospital
    Rochestown Avenue
    Dún Laoghaire
    Co Dublin

If you get off the Dart in Dun Laoghaire you are a long way from where you are looking for hence my obtuseness.

Blackrock is as much a state of mind as a geographical location.

An out of towner might not realise they're referring to a postal district if they're just reading off the bottom line of an address, I think that's what trad was getting at.
For example -these folks are on the UCD campus, but list Blackrock as their address.

Blackrock is not in Dublin 4. Although the UCD campus is. I've never heard anyone refer to either Mount Merrion or Belfield as being in Blackrock before though.
