Fear of bridges

Hi, I have had a fear of bridges for quite a few years. I absolutely hate them and start to panic on them especially if I'm walking. It's not so bad if I'm travelling in a car or bus but I still feel a bit tense.

I was just wondering if anyone had any techniques to get over this phobia without professional help? I'm going travelling for a year and I'm worried there will be a lot of bridges on my trip. My boyfriend is very understanding but I don't think he'll be happy if we have to avoid any place with a bridge because of me.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi

I have also had fear of bridges for last 7 years. I has started psychological terrapy recently. I avoided it as much as it possible. Don't make the same mistake!! Fear is growing when you avoid it. Nobody understand this-believe me. i tried to talk with friend- they were looking on me like on freak :/ I Have problem to travel outside Dublin at the moment because it grew up. Fear of bridges has changed into fear of heights, fear of open space too(I loved mountains now I hate it). I haven't travelled for last 3 years( I come from Poland) There was always something more important like college exams, work, girlfriend etc etc...then traveling. (I work as a sales rep :)
From this point where I am at the moment my advice is to talk with psychologist about it - dont avoid it. don't make the same mistake like me. If not- It will be or it is your biggest nightmare.
You might try to fight this by behavioural approach. Small steps... This is what I do right now.. Ive also heard about NLP method and it is very popular. Google yourself. this fear is like a flu, but there is no medecines. You need to find medicine yourself and this is the hardest thing to do. If any question
    email me and......GOOD LUCK
