    A Chairde,

SpóirtFest, a celebration of sport, participation and fun, is a new Festival for your events calendars this year.

And we are looking for Junior B Football, Junior hurling, Junior Camogie and Junior Ladies Football teams to take part in the SpóirtFest Tournament in Ballincollig, Co. Cork over the August Bank Holiday weekend (30th July - 1st August).

Our town has got together and come up with a fantastic festival concept, namely SpóirtFest. Basically, over the one weekend, we will be running tournaments in a multiple of sports, from Darts to Hockey, from table Tennis to Rugby. We also intend to host one-off exhibition matches in sports such as American Football, Cricket, Roller Derby, you name it. There will also be a Sports Expo, where the latest sporting trends and innovations will be on display as well as coaching seminars and clinics, a Festival Marquee and lots of other attractions.

In terms of the GAA side of things (and this is open to a Clubs 1st, 2nd or 3rd team), we are running a 13-a-side Junior B Football Tournament, an 11-a-side Junior A hurling Tournament, a Junior Camogie and Ladies Football Tournament. For the Junior B football in particular, we are aiming to have one Club side from every county, and thankfully the county representatives are coming forward thick and fast. And in Junior Hurling we are aiming for 16 teams from around the country.

We still have to formalise some of the plans, but the basic structure would be as follows:
On Saturday each team will have 3 Round Robin games, most likely 12 min a half games.
The top 2 teams in each Group will go forward to the knockout competition on the Sunday (depending on resources we may have a Plate tournament for the remaining teams too). So if you want your Club to represent your County give us a shout straight away.

Should you wish to stay for the weekend we are blessed with accommodation Centres within 5 minutes drive of Ballincollig, as we are situated very close to UCC and CIT (we will run shuttle buses to and from these Centres to the Festival). We are working with a lot of these centres to arrange the best possible packages and if and when you decide to take part we can organise things locally for you. At present on average it is working out around €30-40 per head for the weekend.

Our website should be up and running in the next 10 days and a lot more information will be available then, but as I said, it is first come first serve, as there is no other way to really organise it.

In the meantime if you require any more information please don't hesitate to contact me by email at SpoirtFest@gmail.com.

    Yours in Sports,

    Is mise le Meas,

    James O'Reilly
    Event Organiser
    SpóirtFest

Have you any info on the other sports, i.e. football, be good if you could post it in the other sport sections?

And is it a 1 day thing or what?

2 weeks to the festival now, I think James is keeping most things up-to-date via the SpoirtFest Facebook page which is available on http://www.facebook.com/YourSpoirtfest

There will be two days of sporting events, on the Saturday and Sunday, with plenty of entertainment on hand as well especially with the concerts on both evenings.

    Regards,
    eamonn
