    hi guys im wondering can someone help im trying to do a maths problem:
    show (2,3,3) is an eigenvector of A= {-1 4 -2}
    {-3 4 0}
    {-3 1 3} and find the corresponding eigenvalue,
    help would be really appreciated its driving me crazy every answer i get is wrong i no the eigenvalue is meant to equal 2 but i cant do it!!! :(

    How have you been trying to prove it so far?

    A vextor, x is an eigenvector of a matrix A if for some scalar [latex]\lambda[/latex], [latex]A \bf{x} = \lambda \bf{x}[/latex]

    Do you know how to calculate the eigenvalues firstly?

    thank you both for your reply, I found out that ther was a slight error in the question and the (2, 3, 3) was supposed to be transposed! so that it was:
    (2)
    (3)
    (3) in finding this i was able to solve, thanks again!!! :)

    some authors just write vectors like that (even if it was just a typo this time), mostly because they are lazy. so you will see this again. In general if you see a vector, expect that it is a column vector unless you have a good reason to believe otherwise.
