i had a satellite dish up at the back of my house but now there are leaves on a big tree so i lost all those channels,i am in limerick city and a friend told me that there is another satellite in the sky in what i would say is north to north west of limerick,is this true?or would it be a waste of time putting up my dish in the front of the house,he also told me there is an aerial that will get satellite channels,is this true?

There are satellites carrying TV channels all over the sky, but you might end up picking up foreign channels of no interest to you.

If the old dish (assuming it was for Sky) points to a different part of the sky than the proposed dish will, then you obviously cannot get these same channels.

As for getting satellite channels via an aerial, thats not possible. With an aerial you can get terrestrial or digital channels such as those offered by Saorview (or Freeview in NI/UK). You need a dish to get satellite reception.

Could you get the tree trimmed back?

Might bring the dish back into action.

Geostationary satellites used for tv broadcasts are 'above' the equator (well to the south of Limerick!).
