    Advice needed please.

My bf is flying to portugal May 13th. His passport is expired.
If the forms were in the (swift) post tomoro.. 10 working days would be the 12th.

Is it stupid to cut it so fine? Should he just bring up froms to office n wait?

Is it an all day wait? And how much is this emergency service?????

    Thanks for any help.

Emergency service is €50 on top of the €95 fee.

Thanks for your reply, is the normal fee not 80e?

It is now only €80 if you use passport express. It is €95 if you take in yourself. Then you have to add the €50 emergency fee.

I'd go in yourself if I were you, I'm waiting 14 days for my passport by express (I've included the days off for easter & good friday) I posted it on the 8th :( I'm gonna miss my flight tomorrow because of it.
    Don't take the chance!!

I agree with moon dancer you should go in and get it!
I ordred mine in mid april last year with passport express and it was close enough to my holiday (early june) when I finally got it

    Thanks for replies.

He will def be going in to get it himself now.

Has anyone been in that can give me a run down of the day?

He q's, gets calls & goes up with forms & gets passport on the spot? Hardly??
Is it a ticket system? How long should he be expectin to wait??

They'll send him away for a couple of hours is how I'm fairly sure it works. There's a couple of nice cafes on Molesworth Street or a Dunne & Crescenzi on Frederick Street, he should pop in there and chill with a coffee and then come back in a couple of hours.

If he gets in when they open he should have it by lunchtime, make sure he brings his flight tickets with him as I don't think they'll do it if you don't prove you're in a rush.

Well defo don't bother with passport express. I'm waiting over 10 working days already for mine. Just checked the website and it says due to high volume, the turnaround time has been extended to 13 days.

Oh and they never answer their phones in the passport office. They have a voicemail on all day saying to ring back later, it's absolutely ridiculous

Don't hold your breath, I posted mine on the 8th April & I STILL don't have it!! I missed my holiday at the weekend and all :(

If you need a passport within 10 days, do not use passport express. Go into the office and pay the extra.

You can also get issued with an emergency passport (the green one). I know the embassy here overnighted me an emergency passport last time when my new passport hadn't returned in time. They were really helpful and kept me up to date and only issued it at the last minute. i.e. day before the flight. You still need to return it to get the proper passport. You should contact your local office about it if things might be too tight.

I got one the same day last year:

have everything you need if you go in personally:

    a) your flight details showing you've a legtimate reason for an emergency passport (not sure how necessary that is but the time I did it I had it with me and showed the chap)

b)passport photos signed by a guard

    c) there's a form you need also signed by a guard. You're supposed to have a local guard do it, the lads in pearse street were kind enough to do it for me. I was filling in the form and only saw the "local garda" bit then.

d)I had my old passport too, handed it in with the documentation, they clip the corners and give it back with your new one.

I saw people losing the head with the staff in there because they had bits missing, no photo, hadn't the payment on them etc.

take a look online at what's required, turn up with everything you need.

Took me the guts of 4-5 hours, was on the plane that night, phew!

They probably wont give it to him in one day, i myself have been in twice for emergency passports, first time i got it in one day but htats because i was flying out that day, 2 nd time i had to go back in the next day becuase i wasnt flying for a week from the day i went in to get it, only thing is if they do tell you to come back the next day you can get someone else to collect it for you which is what i had to do.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Just an update for those who are interested.
Went up Thurs with all the forms needed, flight details, signed pics, expired pp & fee.

In & out in one hour, very efficient. €95.

He couldn't get it in the one day, they said you can only collect it the day b4 you fly, so I will collect it on his behalf Thursday and pray it will be ready..

Has anyone had any problems collecting it the day before??

I'd say you will be fine, go early in case there are issues. I got an emergency passport once after check-in at Dublin airport noticed my passport was expired. 1h30 to takeoff time. Taxi from the airport to the Depth of Foreign Affairs in Stephens Green and back, just made the flight. Got the photos witnessed by the Gardai at the airport.

Sorry for reviving this topic but I'm a bit worried... I'm about to book flights for the 7th of July (8 working days from now) to show the PP office I need it quick. My last passport was lost so Im wondering if there's any extra waiting involved with that? I have my birth cert and garda ID.
    Also it 80euro plus 55euro?
