Provisional License Question

Hello, I got my Provisional 4 years ago. I done a few lessons and when I had enough saved I was going to get insured, But then found that my girlfriend was pregnant and thought the money would be more needed there (How right I was). Anyway now that I have a steady income and things aren't quite as expensive I was looking at a few cars and insurance prices but my only setback is the Provisional, I'm not sure where to find information on it, Can I get it renewed? Surely they could understand why I had to abandon the idea of driving for a while. Do I have to do the TT all over again? Any help on this is greatly apppreciated.

(If its in the wrong forum please tell me where the right one is)

    Thanks.

If the licence has expired you'll have to start at the beginning again, i.e. do your Theory Test and get a Learner's Permit. They won't care why you stopped driving and/or let it expire.

why not call the motor tax office or citizens information for details on what to do.

    This is not true.

Provided your provisional has not been expired for 5 years you can reapply for a new one, without having to do a theory test.

The reason you decided not to drive is of no interest, or concern, to anybody in this matter. Is the licence expired? If so, ask what you need to do to renew it. As PCPhoto said, contact the motor tax office and check on the status of your licence. It's that cut and dried.

as Alanstrainor said, if it's expired less than 5 years you can just renew as normal. If you don't still have the provisional licence, you'll need to get a form D8A stamped in a Garda station to say it's lost.
