Just wondering if STROMECTOL (ivermectin) is available on prescription in Ireland - for human consumption - or is it 'banned' from usage?

No idea if you can get it for people but you can buy it for horses over the counter! lol

Searching the IMB website, and the UK equivalent, it seems ivermectin (for human use) is not licensed here or in the UK. This does not mean it is not possible to get it. If a doctor believes it is appropriate to prescribe it and is happy to do, and a pharmacist is happy to dispense it, it may be possible to source an ivermectin product that is licensed in another country.

    Thanks for the replies.

It is a very effective oral scabies treatment for humans.

Hi silverwex, just wondering where did you get the ivermectin in the end or did you get it at all? Did you need a prescription?

Its licensed by the Department of Agriculture for use on cattle or sheep in Ireland (as a subcutaneous injection) and there is a small animal exemption for topical use (typically for cats and guinea pigs).

It has been noted as being used in an unlicensed manner to treat among other things- headlice in children- and some farmers routinely add it to the water fed to poultry- where they reckon it can result in an increase of up to 10% in body weight from a similar food feed.

It is not licensed for use in (by subcutaneous injection) or on (topically by lotion) humans in Ireland.

In Ireland- depending on the purpose people are seeking it for- typically they would be prescribed either Permethrin cream (in the first instance) and if that didn't work- then they'd move on to try a malathion lotion. These are topical medication- typically used for diagnosed cases of scabies and/or headlice- and are typically only prescribed when OTC treatments are shown to have been ineffective.

Ivermectin is not licensed for human use in Ireland- though it is available over the counter for use as a pour on for cattle (Coopermec- is a 0.5% ivermectin solution)- or a prescribed medication for SC injection in cattle or sheep.

Note- use of ivermectin is controlled under EU Regulations- and use of it will exclude animals from the food chain for protracted periods of time (if sheep are treated the herd may are excluded for a period of 18 months- I'm not sure what the exclusion period is for cattle).

There are serious side effects to using ivermectin- as any farmer who has gotten splashed with pour-on will testify to. Seriously- there are good reasons its not licensed- don't go there.

If you put Ivermectin (or any other medication) in the IMB database search it will bring back all the licensed uses in Ireland. (www.imb.ie)

excellent senate hearing video about use of stromectol/ivermectin on covid.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tq8SXOBy-4w

I saw that Senate hearing- and what I took from it- was a plea from the good doctor to properly test it.

I've also read a number of articles on in- which state definitively that the laboratory tests of 120mg/kg cell sample tests, are approx 40 times higher a dose than the typically administered 3mg/kg given for pest infestations- and even then, are at least an order of magnitude below those shown to shut down viral replication (and it shuts down a whole lot more than just viral replication- it is thought it also acts on the nervous system (which doesn't happen in low doses) and at even half the suggested dose for Covid, impairs eye sight and accumulated in brain tissue (from autopsies on sheep).

Here is an example of such an over-view: https://theconversation.com/ivermectin-is-still-not-a-miracle-cure-for-covid-19-despite-what-you-may-have-read-144569

With Ivermectin- as it pertains to covid, it really is the case that the medicine may be far worse than the disease it is allegedly trying to cure........

The bigger issue than anything else- is a lack of reliable peer reviewed research, and of the small trials that have occurred, there has been no follow up or corroboration of their results.

    Do not do this.

There is a strong possibility that you'll end up the subject of a Garda investigation. It is not permissible to import controlled substances into Ireland through the postal system.

    Don't do it.
