Coroner's Verdict

Just wondering if anyone knows why the Coroner in the case reported yesterday didn't go for the option of unlawful killing as opposed to accidental death for the passengers.

    Number of reasons i suspect:
    1. 'unlawful killing' can only be given by a jury (was there a jury in this case? dont think so)
    2. was there sufficient evidence to suggest this was a case of murder or manslaughter? the standard of proof for 'unlawful killing' is beyond a reasonable doubt.
    3. 'unlawful killing' shouldnt be considered where it expressly/impliedly implicates one named individual (even if that individual is now dead); that would have been the case here

    Thanks for that.
