Hi, I just downloaded the broadband usage meter and was shocked to find that as of 12.45 today my usage is at 176% of my monthly allowence!!!!

as my bill cycle is from 22nd of each month how is this possible? No way I've used that much in less than 5 days!!

can someone look into this for me?

    ta

    Hi psychosax,

The broadband usage works on a monthly (calendar) basis which is counted from the start to the end of every month. As hundreds of customers are on different billing cycles it is simpler to work on a month by month structure .

    Thanks, Mark

Does that mean if a customer sees usage above 100% then they may not have actually exceeded their allowance, and vice versa?

Let's say for example a customer has a 10 GB allowance and has a monthly billing cycle starting on the 15th. For the first half of month 1 they use nothing out of their allowance, but they use 10 GB in the second half (after the 15th) of month 1. Then in month 2 they use 10 GB before the 15th and use nothing for the second half of month 2.

The usage meter will tell this customer that they have stuck to their allowance in each calendar month, however they will have used twice their allowance (20 GB) in one monthly billing cycle.

Would Eircom consider that customer to have exceeded their monthly allowance or would they consider the customer to have abided by their allowance?

    Hi number_1

Here is a helpful link to your query - http://bit.ly/h3m7dQ

In addition the usage is always billed as backdated so if you received a bill in the middle of April -

A monthly bill will show any excess usage for March, a bi-monthly bill will include Februarys excess usage.

Any excess usage for April usage will not be billed until May.

However customers may view their usage in real time the usage will not be tallied until the end of the month. Then will be applied on the customers subsequent bill.

The usage reverts back to 0 at the start of each month.

This insures there is no overlapping of excess usage charges.

If you have any follow up queries let me know.

    Thanks, Mark
