After a 11 miler last Sunday and a poor choice of sock wear I have a nasty blister on my left sole. I have tried piercing, steeping, drying out..and now on compeed blister plasters but still really sore to walk on not to mention running on..Any suggestions please as what is best to do?Thinking of going to a chiropidist to sort out and strap up for the race on Sunday. Appreciate any advice at this stage. Thanks!

They are a bloody pain. Leave the compeed on though! Doesn't matter what it looks like underneath. Mine was a total mess 3 days before a race but the plaster and a few neurofen got me through.

Methylated spirits rubbed onto open wound at least 3 times a day will cleanse and harden it up in no time. Then go with the compeed or tape it up on the day.

I used to be a massive fan of compeed plasters; but they're just too damn expensive these days. A roll of leukoplast zinc oxide tape is my preventative/treatment for blisters now (3quid for 5 meters of the stuff--bargain). Just tape up the entire area thats prone to (or currently) blistered.

Inso far as possible clean the blister (now that its burst/ripped) and leave it to dry out; then tape it up and dont remove the tape/compeed until its gone and new skin is growing up underneath.

If its especially painful, beware that if you run on it for a long distance you'll probably adjust your gait to avoid running on it, and stress muscles and stuff that you usually wouldnt, increasing your risk of picking up a real injury.

Hope you get sorted out and make it to the race!

Haven't figured out the preventative bit yet but the spray on plaster that you get is absolute magic on healing blisters. I had some pretty bad blisters on my hands but within 36 hours they're almost gone.
Not sure how it would work on your feet but it's worth a try.

For preventative - I swear by Hilly Twin Skin socks. used to get a load of blisters in the arches of my feet. Have not had a single one in two years of using the Hillys

Molefoam, I think compeed might have a molefoam if not look for Dr. Scholls, you get it in chemist anyway. Cut out the size of you blister out of it and put it on so it surrounds your blister, can even go with two layers of it. The basic point is to support all around the blister so u don't actually put any pressure on the blister. I find it helps a lot anyway.

Exact same here. Used to get terrible blisters until I started wearing the Hilly socks.

How is the blister now? Any improvement?

More miles socks got off ebay cheap. I bought loads of compeed cheap on amazon for 80 cent a box. I put compeed area's that I know I would get a blister on, for me thats my small toes. Haven't had a blister since last Oct even running 13 miles. http://cgi.ebay.ie/3-PAIR-MORE-MILE-LONDON-RUNNING-SOCKS-ALL-SIZES-/160514770338?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Sports_Clothing_LE&var=&hash=item6b1af9bd7e are the ones I have. Stopped wearing compeed for the very long runs and now I never get any blisters only nails getting rubbed off :)
