I have an 01 2.4D Hiace, the old engine, not the D4D. Just wondering how accurate this warning light is. Obviously if it lights up I'd get it looked at but has anyone any experience of how accurate they are, any examples of belts going before the light came on?

Its only relaible if the light was reset when the belt was done, and the majority of indy's i come across dont bother turning them off.

The more important thing is to find out when the belt was done last, that is the most accurate way of finding out when a belt is due.

In your case it should be done every 60,000 miles or 5 years, whichever comes first.

Seems to have been reset. Comes on with all the other warning lights when the key is turned in the ignition but goes off straight away when its started. Any idea how much an independent mechanic wants for a belt change is in these?

Hiace belt is fairly straight forward. AFAIK it can be done in a day.

Thats what its supposed to do, if it stays on when the engine is started then its due a change.

Its only a time based light though and isn't an actual indication of the belt condition.
