Golf engine light on - causes

    An engine light has just come on the dash of my 2009 Golf TDI. The car appears to be running fine, and I've noticed that one of the rear running lights appears to be out.

    Could this have resulted in the engine light coming on? I've heard that break lights going can cause it.

    Going to bring it into the dealership I bought that car off to get it checked anyway, but I am wary of driving. Oil, water etc. all seems to be fine, no smell of burning (so far anyway!)

    The bulbs on the car would have no effect on the engine warning light. It indicates a fault with the engine control electronics.


    Does the car get used for any long trips or just around town driving?

    Mostly city driving but I take it to Donegal about once a month. I was going to chance driving it up to my garage there this weekend but perhaps I will err on the side of caution and get it checked before I go.

    Are you sure it's an engine light my passat has a bulb warning light that comes on when a bulb fails and self resets once the bulb is replaced. I hate to say it but read the manual :)

    Well, turned out it was a pressure sensor that needed replacing and caused it to go on. Done under warranty.
