    Hi

Im just wondering does anyone know the regualtions regarding speed vans?

This morning i was driving home from work on the belgard road, were theres always a speed van in the same spot, as i approached I saw an unmarked plain red van so thought just to be on the safe side id cruise past it, when i got close turns out it was an unmarked speed van, sly f~ckers. I thought all vans had to be clearly marked?

Shouldve really gotten a photo of it, if id been thinking. Im 99% sure it was a speed van going by what i saw in the back windows.

Does anyone know if there are unamrked ones? Tryed finding on the net but couldnt get anything.

    Thanks

there should not be unmarked speed vans - if its there again - take a pic.

The "Speed vans" are supposed to ONLY be in locations where a road fatality has occurred.

if you know there is a "speed van" there all the time, why go anywhere near the speed limit when you are in the area.... keep yourself under at all times....please. (Don't get me wrong I think a lot of the speeds are incorrect and every road should be reviewed - I believe it was mentioned in one of the papers yesterday(Tues) - some of the speed "limits" are just wrong)

Well I'm sorry but the unmarked ones are still being used. Plain white one on Cork street the other night, easily identifiable by the blacked out rear windows (minus strip for camera) and single (afterthought) wiper. I'd love to know when's the last time their was a fatal accident on Cork st, probably 20yrs ago when it was still a narrow street.

Yep, saw it at half six. It had the periscope but no markings.

I reported in on trapster for anyone with an iphone.

Stupid thing though. Where it sits is hidden from view from a distance, due to small trees, but it had its lights on, which made it noticeable from Burgerking.

these are garda vans and not private ones and as such do not need to be marked and are not confined to certain areas.

Indeed, but I reckon the vast majority of drivers don't know that.

    Indeed!

    Three types of vans:
Marked private vans - operate in the zones marked on garda.ie and issue fines/points
Unmarked private vans - these are survey vans. They operate outside the zones, but don't issue fines/points
Garda vans - a totally separate set up, and not subject to the GoSafe operation conditions
