Summer Wedding Guest

Just looking for some advice on a dress for my boyfriends family wedding in july! I know the wedding party theme is black and white but guests can wear what they want. Was thinking a nice multi colour maxi (dunno if im tall enough though) or a above the knee summery coloured dress, any advice appreciated. BTW its a country wedding and im a 5'5 brunette size 8 and not exactly blessed with curves:o

Unless you are actually part of the wedding party I wouldn't try to match the theme.
A multicoloured dress would be lovely, but I'd stay away from the black and white theme.
I'm going to a wedding in a few weeks and the bridesmaids are wearing purple, so I've stayed away from that colour when choosing my dress.
I've never heard of guests matching the colour scheme with what they wear, and IMO it would look weird if they did.
As far as above the knee or maxi dress, how formal is the wedding?
Both could look great, but you don't want to feel out of place in a floor length number if everyone else is in a knee lenght iykwim.

I'd say there will be plenty of maxis about this summer (am hoping! have one for a wedding on Friday myself) but I'd avoid a single colour maxi if you think it might look too 'bridesmaidy'.
I'm attending a family wedding in a fortnight and had thought about buying a dress in similar colour scheme to the wedding party (I saw a wedding once where the bride's brothers & mother all wore shades of purple, purple ties/shirts with their normal suits, which was the general 'theme' of the bridesmaids dresses/flowers, etc - it looked lovely in the family wedding photos) but then I saw something in red that I couldn't resist. So, I won't be matching. I think it might be a nice idea, but wouldn't get stressed about trying to find something b&w.
I tend not to be afraid to be overdressed at a wedding rather than under-dressed. As long as you don't upstage the bride/bridesmaids (by wearing white or bridesmaid dress), I think brides really appreciate the effort that people go to in dressing up for their day (well, at least I did).

im steering clear of black and white anyways was just saying thats their own theme for the wedding party. i like the idea of a multicoloured maxi dress but dont want it too dressy or too casual with the fabrics in it (picky i know:rolleyes:) would anyone have any websites for with knee length or maxi dresses?

I bought the 'tate' one from Phase Eight website but the fabric was a bit clingy, but they have quite a few maxis in patterns/colours.

It looks amazing....depends on how short it is though, you want it to be decent when you sit down in the church, you dont want to give any of the older gang a heart attack !!!

In my honest opinion, the 2 dresses you have posted look perfect for a saturday night out, but would look kind of trashy at a wedding if you are going to the full thing. Youd maybe get away with it if it was just the afters

Sorry, I agree with Amy. Those dresses are gorgeous for a night out but not exactly suitable for a wedding. I' ll have a look after dinner and see if we can find you something. In the meantime have a look through this and see if anything takes your fancy

How old are you OP? Judging by the pictures I would suggest late teens/early 20s?? I myself am 24 and also need dresses for weddings this summer.
It is a problem, because you want to look your age/be fashionable but there's a very thin line between being able to pull something off and looking like a trash bag in the church and regretting an outfit in retrospect.

I would watch the material on dresses, the second dress you posted a picture of particularly looks a small bit clingy/cheap. (So sorry - please do not take offence!) As i said - would love it myself for a sat night out!

What height are you OP?

Those lipsy dresses tend to look even shorter on me than they do on the models and i'm 5 " 7 (and a 1/2) so it's not always as simple as looking at the models height!
