There was a thread here recently about this I think.

I think the consensus was you need everyone who has rights to the commomage's permission ?

as far as i know bunny is correct, no point in one farmer giving you permission and 3 more going ape **** over you shooting the land, its never going to end well unless all people agree

On commonage, I dont think it is as simple as getting permission off the persons than share the commonage .
What rights do they themselves have is it grazing rights or sporting rights IE shooting rights .
So even if you get permission of these persons does not mean they themselves have the sporting rights . Or are in a position to grant permission to shoot on the commonage .
Its a slightly grey area which should be looked into before going for a shot on commonage .

I spoke to a local ranger who told me the irish state own the shooting/sporting rights of commonage unless they have been bought. It seems when gun clubs were first established it was a pretty easy thing to buy, a gun club in north west mayo own the shooting rights of a vast area on the foothills of the ox mountains which is commonage land but the shooting rights are owned by the gun club and people have been cautioned for shooting it. In your case if the local gun club are releasing pheasants or if the area is surrounded by gun club grounds you better be careful.

There is commanage where i live- a famous bog... We pay a 20euro cheque a year to the Department of the Envioronment, Heritage and local Government for the shooting rights to the land. The only people therefore who have permission to shoot the land are from our gun club. Be careful with commanage... there have been mighty rows over lads not in the club shooting the land.. we just let the old lads and farmers shooting it for years to continue.

What bog is that, I do have a mooch around a few bogs in the area where I live and I don't want to be stepping on people's toes.
