Non EU National flying out of Belfast - anyone else done it?

    Hi folks,

just wondering if any non-EU visa required nationals had flown in and out of Belfast rather than an ROI airport?

the flight dates fron Belfast to Turkey (hubby's homeland) are much more suitable for us, as is the price. From my reading of the visa details on the border agency website, a person who would normally require a visa to transit, can be granted a border visa at the descretion of the immigration official provided they arrive by air, and can prove onward travel to another Channel Island or ROI within 24 hours, and have no reason to stay in the UK.

So from my understanding, my hubby should be safe enough to fly via Belfast, given he has a ROI residence visa, permanent job, (as do I) address and mortgage here in the ROI. But I am always nervous of situations where it is at the descretion of an immigration official, as from experience it all depends on which one you get on that particular day - in other words, it could go either way. I would be terrified that they would say, no bog off back to Turkey with ya!

I don't really fancy applying for a full blown visa for the UK, as it is one country where it is a pain in the whatsits.

Has anyone else who is a visa required non-EU national living in Ireland travelled via Belfast? your experiences and advice would be greatly appreciated!

    thanks folks!:)
