Timing belt - Polo 02

    Hi

    does anyone know if the vw polo 02 has a timing belt and when should you change it ? when i open the bonnet the belt is not visible as in other polos..

    what engine is it?

    i think some of the 3 cylinder petrols are chain driven

    The timing belt is never visible.

    As above, the 1.2, 3 cylinders engines are chain driven.

    yep 3 cyclinder. thanks for the advice. great to not have to worry about belts.

    I'd be more nervous having that engine then a belt driven one. The VAG 3 cylinder is very troublesome, especially with the chains/tensioners.

    well ive 90k mileage on mine but havent had any probs yet. do you think i should get it checked out ?

    Ahh nothing really if it's going ok and not rattling or anything. My mother has one for years and it's still going perfectly.

    Keep the oil topped up and fresh would probably help alright.

    Same engine as in the Ibiza's as well. The chain seems to jump out of a tooth or two causing trouble.

    Well maintained/looked after and I'm sure it won't be a problem.
