Used to work in this area 2000-2003 up in the ifsc left it to go into client relations with BNY melon.
Found fund admin really monotonous and after a while could not get any satisfaction from that area.
If your working for an Irish company you will need a degree minimum to progress,I moved to Bermuda for a while with them and left the industry to concentrate on a science/radiology career which I am currently pursuing.
My personal experience choose something that you enjoy reading/learning about and a career plan will form in your mind, don't be afraid to leave the business path as you always keep the knowledge.
    Best of luck
