So my friend is getting married next week and i am giving him cash as a present. I got married last year and tried to keep it as cheap for our guests to attend as we are well aware of how much attending a wedding by having it in Dublin (living in Dublin) so people could get a taxi home if they wished. + the stags was a night out in the city.

My friends wedding is in Kerry, which means travel/accommodation expenses + a stags in Prague.

    So the question is:
Is it is reasonable for them to expect the same amount they gave us.

(I received a very generous €200 from them BTW)

I'd give them nothing, paying for travel and accommodation should be enough for them.

F*ck sakes is anyone ever inventive when it comes to presents anymore!

Also I think Weddings were invented to bore relatives and bleed friends of boring anecdotes and money.

So what I propose is find a toaster that burns a pattern of money in to the bread and give them that.

    Genius.

As much as you wish. Doesn't matter what you received from them.

A big fat €0. Fucking cheek of some people expecting you to travel and pay for everything.

He/She had to travel to Dublin from Kerry for your wedding and pay their own expences ya?

I know fair enough the stag being abroad may be expensive but a stag is always a good weekend.

€200 is the common figure round my way anyway.

Give them what ever you want! Jaysus theres some right scrooges here giving advice. Maybe issue them with a invoice to pay for the fuel to get to Kerry!!!
If the bride is from Kerry then thats fair enough but if they just picked Kerry at random i'd be fairly peed off at the expense.

fair enough it is madness having the stag in prague and a bit inconsiderate seeing as alot of people are financially bollóxed. €150-200 quid i suppose.

Ask them if they want anything in particular.. Or find out where they are going on honeymoon and get them a spa treatment or voucher for dinner or something like that in one of their hotels..

My sister is getting married this summer & im getting her a keepsake present & am paying for the hairdresser on the morning of the wedding.

€200 is a lot if you're going to a lot of expense for the wedding, what you can afford really is the answer.

I don't agree. People don't pick a venue so its a hassle for their guest, they pick somewhere that they like and where they think they'll enjoy their day. If its too expensive to stay the night and give a gift maybe you should decline the invite. I would hate people at my wedding who were moaning about the cost of it. Its an invite not a summons. Its optional.

Give them the gift in the currency of where their honeymoon will be. A friend did that for us and was great.

As for wedding location everyone has their dream venue and its their right to have it at that venue. If you cant afford too much they know that already also.
