Do you hate the radio too?

I hate the radio. Always have. I can't stand listening to the music other people play. I can't stand listening to adverts on the radio as they make me cringe. I can't stand talk-radio as it's a load of me brown. The only thing I can contemplate on radio is sports, when I have no access to a TV / interweb machine.

    Am I the only one?

I dont mind talk radio. Music radio is terrible. There are too many radio hosts that are too in love with their own voices and most radio stations are aimed towards kids now a days.

I've given up listening to Irish radio. Where I live, I can get 11 radio stations and from 9-12 every morning every single one of them just talks!! No music at all. Then for the rest of the day you're lucky to get six songs an hour. And the music they do play is gone way too generic because they're trying to appeal to as many people as possible. Now I just listen to London's Capital FM through satelite/Internet. Wall to wall music. The news lasts about 30 seconds on the hour. Brilliant.

Don't like most but I do like phantom 105.5, good music and not many adverts. :D Cant stand call in shows.

Still like the radio especially with the choice you have now on the net.

Think for those brought up in the 70s/80s, the idea of radio had/has more of an (enduring) allure that's being largely superseded by the net. The idea of one person miles and miles away talking in a room late at night and you and thousands of people other can hear it; listening to the old scratchy SW stations or shipping forecasts or DJs like Peel and Fanning before you had the net for finding new tunes.

The only Irish stations I listen to now would RTE 1 or Nova in the car - I usually just slap on the iPod or Podcasts of shows that I like.

Radio has been massively dumbed down. The cult of the idiot is given a voice on radio. I'd love a rock station that avoids the celebrity bull**** and just focuses on music discourse and real musicians. I don't give a fück if the Kings of Leon are in a beef with the creator of Glee.

It's still better than watching the TV

I did until nova came along. It's the only station that doesn't make me want to claw my ears out

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I listen to Chris Moyles most days in work off BBC's website. I think it's great. I like Radio 1 in general. Most radios stations are not very good though, but I definitely don't hate the radio in general.

You man in the morning is a can of piss, however. My rage is tempered by the bangin' choons.

Choon I say when I head to the shower.

See I had faith in it, but then it went to sh!t like all the others.

Now I just pop in my Cannibal Corpse cd and drive like a motherf*cker.

It started off very well but quickly went down the same direction as the rest of the stations of the presenters being a bit too self indulging :(

What's great about Nova is they have that perfect format of OK tunes and the kind of soothing FM waffle that kind of slides off your ear without annoying you or really sinking in.

I got a new car, which dosnt have an auxiliary port for my iPhone. Was forced to listen to a mix of spin, 98, 104 and so on the motorway for 40 mins each way.

Actually got a headache, felt less intelligent after it. What the hell is wrong with these radio DJs who all sound the same, try to be funny and fail miserably. Its like the irritating kids from school got a break on radio.

Colin and jim jim, if i ever meet them in person im gonna nut the both of them. Mindless nonsense, same mtv chart everyday. Zzz

Bought a iTrip for my phone the next day, im transmitting classic choons on 107.9Fm if anyone comes withing 30 feet of me, feel free to tune in.:D

Only time I turn on a radio is for Philip Kings show on Sunday evenings on Radio 1. Other than that I never bother with it, the aerial on my car snapped off and I couldnt be bothered replacing it because theres nothing I want to tune into.

    The ipod is a godsend!

To be honest I can't stand listening to just music all day on Irish Radio, its completely repetitive and the DJ's suck big time. As someone said ...loving the sound of their own voices.

I find myself listening a lot more so now tuned into talk radio - and I mean good stations.
Both the BBC ones, European ones and American ones.

When I'm on the net surfing I tune in using this great radio tool: Radio Sure
    Main features are:

    * More than 17000 of stations in the package
    * Supports most of the internet radio formats – mp3, wma, ogg vorbis, aac+ and so on
    * Quick and reliable search for your favorite radio stations
    * Smooth switching between stations including crossfade effect
    * Recording what you are listening to and packaging it into separate song files
    * Simultaneous recording of multiple stations
    * Automatic checking for software and radio stations updates
    * Command line parameters for automatization
    * Runs on Windows XP SP3, Vista, Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit)
    * UNICODE support – all domestic stations are perfectly visible and searchable

    and much much more…

Ray D'Arcy and Tony Fenton make my face hurt. Actually no, all of 'em except Ray Foley wreck my head. Tony Fenton plays about 5 songs on a constant loop, interviews musicians like he's a giddy 13 year old, and just generally annoys me. But it's the only radio station I can pick up on my work stereo.

You could play a pretty good drinking game based on taking a drink every time Tony says he's going to play Adele, Noah and the Whale, Two Door Cinema Club or any of the little loop he likes, you'd be sh*tfaced in an hour.

Most of it is crap. I listen to Absolute 80s a bit, I'm obviously not down with the kids any more!

This is the kind of thread i can get behind!

I absolutely hate the radio,Ray Foley in particular, hes just not ****ing funny and the stuff he plays is awful, like something a 12 year old girl would choose....and theres Tony "heeeyyy!" Fenton,a grade A knob, without a doubt the cheesiest dj in Ireland(i hope no one can prove me wrong here...Jesus there couldnt be anyone worse, everything he plays is "ah so great....it really is","It really is" could be a drinking game in itself)

I know a lot of people cant stand Darcy but i like him(id imagine because not only am i an opinionated bastard like him....but i think hes usually right so im fine with it:))

Ive started switching over to Newstalk lately but id prefer something that plays decent music,as longs as its not Black Eyed Peas drivel or whatever, must look into this Nova one, never heard of it.....and a dj who doesnt make me want to punch would be class too

Yes 7 to 10 most evenings, great radio. I listen to BBC Radio 2 at work during the day, good selection of music. Except between 2 and 3 for Liveline just so as I can shout at the radio.
