Help!Trying to Unlock Meteor Modem huawei 173

I have a Meteor Modem huawei E173. I've tried unlocking it using the instructions here : http://www.ruchirablog.com/guide-unlock-huawei-hsdpa-modem-free/.This has worked for others and I think it may have worked for me, I got an "ok" message when it had finished.

Afterwards I was able to receive vodafone and 02 text messages if I put in the respective sim cards into the modem.
However I get a "cannot connect, check your settings" when I try to connect to their data network. I have entered the APNs that others have recommended in the modem settings.

Does the fact that I receive texts on the modem mean that it is properly unlocked?

Does anyone know what I might try to make the modem work with other sims?

Any response will be gratefully received. :)

If the different network's SIM works then the modem is unlocked, and there's nothing else for you to do. The issue is very likely going to be a setting that's wrong. Check the FAQ on this forum for the correct settings.

_Whimsical_, you can use DC-Unlocker to get a dongle status.

DC-Unlocker will spit out the following information on any dongle you've got installed.

Just install and detect. You do not need to provide any details or payments etc. Only if you wish to unlock a modem.

    DC - Unlocker 2 Client 1.00.0575

Some of the mid range Huawei modems are beginning to be protected, with beefed up resistance to being unlocked. You might visit the forums and look for any issues concerning your specific modem.

OP if you think its unlocked what software are you using to connect? If all else fails DUN will work with any unlocked modem once Windows has installed the drivers - no need to install or use any of the connection managers. Check its installed the drivers in Device Manager.

Thanks a million for that. I downloaded the program and found that my modem was unlocked. It made me persist to find out what the problem was. In the end it turned out to be embarrassingly simple. I just needed to add the o2 and vodafone accounts to the profile in the Broadband To Go software and it then worked.

Thank you for that.I was using the meteor broadband to go software. It just needed some simple adjustments to work with other networks. Obviously they werent so simple for me. Not the first 10 times I tried anyway!:)

    What is DUN?

    ...

    What is DUN?

Dial Up Networking. Don't know if you ever had a modem that you plugged into a phone line like an old 56k modem, well that used (Windows) Dial Up Networking to make the connection. All you needed to make a connection was the modem with its drivers installed and a number to dial like Eircoms 1892 150 150 and DUN did the rest for you and you went online.

Well there isn't much difference between a 56k modem and a mobile broadband dongle when it comes to making a connection to the internet. Only difference is you dial *99# as the number and you need to add an extra command (AT command) to specify the APN.
