Someone said to me that you need to do a city and guilds exam so you are "certified" for Australia as the FAS qualification doesnt suffice over there.

    Anyone know anything about this?

Ya it's quite long winded and takes time, you first need to get assessed through TradeSet to see if you are elible. theyll assess you and see if you have the requirements (fetac qualification + 7 yrs exp etc) this process is free.
Then you have to go through their FAS equilivent which is VETASSESS, you will be asked to attend an exam and maybe an interview. it can be expensive and long winded so unless you are going for two years + it wouldnt be worth your time tbh.
Even after this you wont be given your A grade licence, you will need to fill out a log book (again) and be supervised for a year i think it is.
if you have some money tucked away there is a course you can take in london and i think dublin, its quite pricey at £3000 but they teach you and you sit the exam after i think its like a week, pass that and you get your offshore electrical licence which will allow you to be an electrician in Oz (supervised of course). google downundertradies
