French HL

In a nutshell, I am sitting the HL paper however I barely passed in the mocks 47%. My teacher demanded i sit the HL for june which gives me a bit of reassurance that I could pass however:

I CANNOT learn verbs and i mean cannot! They do my head in and I end up getting no study done as I become so flustered. I also do rubbish in class as I am literally with the all a students and it is the same predicament for the only ordinary level student in my year.

What i did for the mocks was just cram - basically learning quotes for letters as this is my most challenging aspect!

Do you think if I learnt off a lot of quotes and had a okay understanding of the tape and comprehensions i could atleast pass?

P.s If the stress of the HL becomes too much, are you able to drop on the day (having already sent off the form saying im sitting HL)

    Thank you:)

You can't change the level you are doing on the day of the exam for the Junior Cert. I kind of wish I had dropped to ordinary level French as I am giving it up, I would have got an easy A in ordinary level, and I could have spent the time studying other subjects.

Anyway, you can definitely pass. You passed in your Mocks and you can do it again. I'd say you could even get a C if you put in the work. I'm not one to give advice for French as I have done nothing all year. The one thing I will say is to learn your vocab. Everything is based on vocab. If you know your vocab, the listening and comprehension will be much easier. You will also be better equipped to do the written section.

Same goes for verbs. I know you said you just can't learn them, but at least just focus on learning the main verbs (aller, avoir, etc.).

Best of luck! If you put the work in, you will definitely pass.

French is a very passable exam tbh. Imo it's hard to get an A in, but very easy to scrape by, for the simple fact that a lot of words are shared with English - so when it comes to listening and reading, a lot can be guessed with just a basic knowledge of French. As for writing, well, I suppose just learn your phrases and keep going with that. If you want to go down that route, verbs aren't really crucially important but I'd strongly advise you to learn them. They're really not as hard as they're made out to be - try to learn the endings for regular verbs and do your best to learn a few of the irregular ones, such as 'aller' and 'faire' and 'etre' as these are the most important ones when it comes to letters. If you do this, you'll more than likely get a C. I wouldn't worry too much if you got 47% in the mocks, it's not a bad result for mocks standard, and you can easily push up a grade between now and June. :)

I don't know to be honest. If Spurious sees this, (s)he'll have an answer for you.
