Following on from the high ratings the show got (3million+) for a 10.35pm Monday night slot, it's just been nominated for Best Sitcom at the TV Baftas alongside Peep Show, Rev and The Trip.

Have to admit, I did chuckle a good few times at MBB - the British seem to love it and hate it in equal measure.

Didn't think I would like it as I am not O'Carrolls biggest fan but I have to say I did find it good to watch.. Fair play for the nomination for the BAFTA..

If you get over the typical Irish cringe at things Irish, and you understand that Brown's boys is a very very very old fashioned comedy - it's actually alright.

No issue with the cringe its the very, very, very old fashioned comedy that I have an issue with, there are better very, very, very old fashioned comedies that are still good.

In saying that well done to all involved. It isn't my type of comedy.

Maybe the Brits think of it as an Irish Royle Family? I watched some of MMB at the weekend, a few laugh out loud moments, then other pieces just fell flat. A bit hit and miss.

Well done to Brendan O'Carroll though, nice to see him getting recognised across the water :)

I am in shock - is this a wind up? It is probably the least funny 'comedy' I've ever seen - i would prefer to sit through a Roy Chubby Brown/Lee Evans double bill and that's saying something

I'd say it's basically like an English seaside saucy postcard for TV. In times of recession these will be popular.

I used to work in a residential home for people with disabilities and this nonsenses was on day and night as well as that god awaful Richie Kavanagh.. I had little choice but to watch it and trust me, it is brutal.
    An embarrassment.

it reminds me of 70's Some Mother Do have em type comedy. Very simple. But watchable.

Some Mothers Do Have you could watch with your children and still could. MBB lacks even the pure slapstick of SMDH. Also there is a certain likeable innocence on behalf of Frank. Mrs. Browne on the other hand.

lol. "Just order the Pizza" was good, and unexpected.

The Some Mother's joke was massively telegraphed.

"What are you going to do with that Mrs. Brown, talking sex to the pizza delivery company" (Angle and slightly nod head repeatedly).

Personally I no longer like it, it has been around for 20 years now in some shape or form, radio, VHS, DVD, live shows, and to me the jokes and the story lines are old and I have heard them all before. For exaple the son has been tyring to come out of the closet for the last 20 years.

That being said I can see how it would be popular to a new audience like on the BBC, and as people have said it's simple, old fashoned, 'carry on' type comedy.

Best of luck to him I say.

Oh and if you like the show you should never get the DVDs, they are full of filler.

There must be enough crap in the RTE archives to sell to the BBC, as that's obviously what they want, so they should dig it out and get their hands on some hard cash.

What's the show with Aonghus McNally...stupid singing one...RTE were fully convinced it was gonna be the biggest show in the world and planned to sell it to every country making them a fortune....

christ I hated that pile of shíte:mad:

I got a good few laughs out of the first few episodes, but I dont think Brendan has a huge amount of material to keep making further funny episodes.. And an award I think is excessive.. It's very amateur in a lot of ways.

You'll find it most likely wasn't RTE that made that show or hoped to sell it on but an independent production company that used RTE/Ireland as a proving ground and springboard to greater things.

According to wikipedia, that show has been produced in 26 other countries. Regardless of what you might think of it's style or content, that's a pretty good result and a good export contribution for the Irish economy.

Yeah its format was sold across the world, I believe that Fremantle distributed the format with Like It Love It productions, co-creator Philip Kfamp (sp?) runs Vision Independent Production who generally aim at the formats market. (AFAIK)

Swedens version (looks more like Linda Martin's Version)

Seems like Finland had a nationwide tour !

If they like MBB then perhaps RTE could sell them Upwardly Mobile?

The trolling attempts are actually less funny than Mrs. Brown's Boys, which I didn't think was possible.
