A very unpopular genre. Contrary to some peoples beliefs, you don't have to be in the 'RA to enjoy it. It's never on the radio, in fact it's rare you would hear it all, even in traditional pubs.
I suppose the interest just isn't there. Which is a shame as I'm sure plenty would enjoy it if they were exposed to it.

At this point it's become associated with too many negative connotations to become popular.

Plus people have given up on music and listen to the Black Eyed Peas and such nowadays. Maybe you could autotune the Wolfe Tones?

I do'nt think British tourists would enjoy hearing "go on home you British bas*ards, go on home, have you got no fu*king home of you're own" being blasted out over the radio in a taxi.

It's a load of **** only fanning the dying flames of a cause that is/was futile. It has no artistic credibility and only brings out the bigot in otherwise impressionable people.

Why don't ye listen to the likes of Planxty, Chieftains or even The Pogues if it's Irish music you're after.

I like The Irish Rover with the Dubliners and Shane McGowan.

Does that count as a rebel song?

A few republican songs are absolutely beautifully written pieces of music actually.

The Wolfetones singing ' Joe McDonnel ' is a beautiful song, and the song 'Grace' is also beautiful too!

Our national anthem is among the most beautiful pieces of music ever written imho too!

The Uileann pipes of Willie Clancy or Seamus Ennis, the fiddle of Sean McGuire etc - that's Irish music and it's an absolute national treasure.

Irish rebel music as we know it today is maudlin guff, usually musically and lyrically inept and a cynical exercise in grubbily misguided patriotism.
