Hendry Retiring?

I'm surprised to see there's been no thread in this forum about this before. I know his top 16 status was only guaranteed tonight with Bingham's loss to Ding but Snooker today owes it's existence to Stephen Hendry!

The 80's belonged to Davis but when Hendry came along in the 90's he, as Davis had done before him, revolutionised the sport and kept people watching/playing. Before Hendry, the game was only appealing to those who understood the tactical side of snooker. After Hendry, and his attacking mentality/break building skills, the sport stayed on the radar due to his skill (& finals involving Jimmy White ). After it's boom in the 80's died out, Hendry raised the professional standard required to compete and kept viewers watching so that Higgins and O'Sullivan could (barely) carry the torch into the noughties.

Whatever his decision may be (and I fear it will be retirement), we should salute probably the finest player ever to pick up a cue. I am lucky enough to have seen Reardon, (Alex) Higgins, White, Davis & Co. play near their prime but no one touches Hendry for the shear impact he has had upon the sport - He is probably the best performing competitor I have seen in any sport I've followed in my lifetime and we should all be grateful (If not for his skill, then for his loss to Ken in '97!!!!) :)

    Pure class!

I think if he does retire he is making the right decision. He has been one of the games finest ambassadors for many years and it has been a pleasure to watch him for the last twenty years or so.

with ding winning last night I think means he will stay in top 16.

as soon as he drops out of top 16 he will retire.

a true legend of the game

If hendry retires tomorrow I wont be pissed! The man played for records and money! Did he achieve? Hell yeah! Did he entertain? In spots and was always dependant upon opponent, I remember watching a UK final against Ken late 90's and I thought snooker does not get better than this!

I always love the early rounds of the worlds, chance to see up and coming guys. Williams all the way, I love his lazy but fast style of snooker!
