Lets go out on a limb here, we're down to the last 8 and each of them have a valid case for winning. Higgins, Selby & Williams were the bookies top tips. Selby and Trump are playing out of their skin, Dott and O'Sullivan have the record and the game for another win & Ding and Allen have been tipped for a win for some time now.

    QF1 - Judd Trump (9/1) v Graeme Dott (11/1)

    QF2 - Ding Junhui (13/2) v Mark Selby (11/4F)

    QF3 - Mark Williams (11/2) v Mark Allen (16/1)

    QF4 - Ronnie O'Sullivan (4/1) v John Higgins (9/2)

Paddy Power's odds after the second round in brackets.

I'm still sticking with John Higgins to do it, but Mark Selby is looking sensational, it's a toughie.

I definitely think it is Mark Selby's year.

If he can keep up his current form, then he will be incredibly difficult to beat.

Some cracking snooker to come though.

    John higgins I think.
Selby is in record breaking form no doubt but I cannot see anyone playing to that standard in the semi or final. I feel higgins will be there and might just produce something extra special given all the crap that happened over the last year.

I'm going with Williams. Have only seen bits and pieces so far but I can't see Junhui winning it (doesn't seem to play well at the crucible for whatever reason) and Selby may have peaked too early. It will be hard to emulate that form again in another match. Williams has experience on his side and it's an open tournament as the odds suggest. That experience could help him over the line (not to say there isn't other experienced players!) coupled with the fact that he is an underdog this year. No real pressure on him to perform whereas there is for some other players.

    Selby, O'Sullivan, Higgins or Williams.

And despite listing half the players guarantee you the winner will be Graeme Dott :P

Very excited as to how open the tournament is this year.

Higgins was my tip from when he won the UK in Dec, and i'm still convinced he'll be champion next Monday night.
In a preview thread i fancied a Selby v Higgins final and if that happens, then it could be really something special.

However if Ronnie O'Sullivan continues with the attitude he has shown in the tournament so far than Higgins v O'Sullivan could be a real classic, then maybe and it's a big maybe if O'Sullivan prevails he could possibly go on and win a fourth world title.

Whoever wins, you can be sure the next week is going to produce some great snooker.

I'll go with Ding to be awkward. He could/should have been going home, but he's in the quarters for the first time now, and may well settle down.

And may bring China to a compete stand still if he goes onto a semi or possible final.

poor oul Mark Allen..no one giving him any hope no?

    off topic a bit
Can i ask a question for the old folks around here..
When Denis Taylor won in 1985. Was he much fancied for the title at the 1/4 final stage. I know he won a few events before this but was he considered a real favourite for the title?

I think denis taylor won both the quarter and semi finals with sessions to spare that year. Davis would of been the outright heavy favourite from the start of the championship then though id say.

He was the marginal outsider in the betting in both his quarter final and semi final, but the lower half of the draw was considered very open with not a huge lot between Thorburn, White, Knowles and Taylor (in that order of favouritism). The Nugget in the other half was odds on fav at this stage.

This is all from memory and I was much too young to bet but was fascinated by following the odds anyway.

Dennis taylor sailed right through his half the draw until the final `85
    10-2 v salvino francisco
    13-6 v eddie charlton
    13-5 v cliff thorburn
    16-5 v tony knowles

One vote for Trump? Think he'll break under pressure?
