was out this morning doing a spot of fishing, not with much luck just a few tiddlers, but there was a great hatch of young ducks around hopefully a few of them last the season for a few shots next season. And the pup is flying it in the water not a bother retrieving in water.also a lot of drakes around mobbing every hen they saw and saw 2 clutches of chicks with no hen in sight maybe drowned by drakes?:)

I saw as well as a grey was following the ducklings by walking on the footpath next to the stream eyeballing them. had no gun with me, so had to chase the crow away - sure he will be back :(

I always bring the gun when i go fishing, was down at a local spot 2 weeks ago, had 2 rods on the go, just lieing back relaxing when i heard russeling an the ditch far side of the river, sat up and here was a big dog fox sneaking up on something, picked up the shotgun and dropped him from about 25 yards, didnt get so much as a bite after that but was worth it to get charlie. Only thing was i had to walk about 2 miles to get around the river to collect him, when i got over there there were 4 chicks huddled an the grass about 10 feet from the fox. so there safe for another while now anyway.:)

One of the lads had to dig a well/ pond the other day for a company (water supply for horses) .. he basically dug out a pond and let a stream fill it...
Now he did it in a way so that we might get a few duck coming in to it.. we have a few duck each year, last year was great, but our duck are on lakes/ ponds on big private estates and stud farms which is inaccessible.
How do you feed up the pond to get a few ducks on it.. (this is about half an acre) We have it fenced off so might buy a few and rear them in the future.
One lad suggested potatoes left around it?

u should have some cover 4 them maybe release a few on it and clip their wings so the cant fly off mite intice other birds in they also love barley, and dont over shoot it and most of all dont tell any1 else where it is,or ull have nothing left to shoot, just another thing been on the carlow waterford dual carriage a gud bit lately and noticed the over flow ponds on the side of the carriage way seen to have a gud lot of duck on them any else notice this.
