so what channels would you get off foreign satellites that would be of use since they are in another language?

I see some football games are shown that wouldnt be shown over here / or unless you have sky. but is there anything else?

Lots of continental channels do include an English language soundtrack

+1 on the English Audio across lots of providers!
Also if your interested in learning a language the immersion offered by foreign tv is great!
I watch of Spanish Canal+ to help me hable spic :P And the football total package is great too!

New release movies are well in advance of Sky.

Same for top shows. Boardwalk Empire, Desperate Housewives etc.,

    All Premier League games live.

    Unrivalled choice of European football.

Plenty of Sky Box Office events free, especially the boxing.
(Wrestling seems to be the exception)

Then there's a huge choice of HD channels.

Free MTV and other premium music channels.

Obviously tons of Foreign language stuff.

And some viewers might even find the naughty stuff a bit stronger than the Sky offerings - ahem ! :)

Anything worth watching usually has an English language soundtrack.

For me its a no brainer. Problem is often that there is too much choice.

But how much of this is FTA?
From my experience very little English Language is FTA, other than stuff you can already see on 28E

OP never said anything about FTA.

For what its worth, there are approximately 6,000 channels possible over Ireland. I have no idea how many are FTA. Maybe 25% at a guess.

So how many out of the channels you listed above would be FTA?

Well to hazard a guess at what would be FTA based on the post you quoted, I would guess at @1500....
based on the 25% of 6000 that Pal gave as a ballpark.

But is there any FTA decent movie channels or other channels that are in english?

You wont get any decent movie or sport channels FTA from Hotbird or Astra 1. FTA English language channels consist of mostly news.

    .
English language free movies are on Astra 2.
If that's what you want, get Freesat.
