    Hey All,
I've got what maybe would be considered as a silly question to put to you!

My road tax ran out end of Feb 2011 and I am going to renew it tomorrow. (A bit late I know).

Anyway, tomorrow will be 26th April, so will I have to pay 1 months arrears (Machr) and start my 6 months from April - September
    OR
Will it be 2 months arrears (March & April) and start my 6 months road tax may - October.

    Thanks in advance :D

If you are taxing it during april, your tax disc will include april and run to end of sept. You will pay arrears for march.

If your car was not used (driven or parked) in a public place at any time during March you can make a declaration to this effect, witnessed by a Garda, and you will be exempt from paying Motor Tax for March.

Go to your local Garda Station and tell them car has been off the road and you save yourself some cash.

I bought a 2.5l car last year with tax of over €900 per year and when i went to tax it the lady in tax office told me to wait a couple of days till end of month and get it declared off road which saved me nearly a 100 bucks:)

I remember reading a few months ago a proposal to the change the system wherby that you would have to declare your car off the road when you were putting it off eg. before going travelling for 6 months and not afterwards to act as a deterrent to people driving with no tax and then falsely declaring it off the road thus avoiding tax.

Did this ever come to fruition anyone know?

    Thanks guys,
I got a garda form last year, when it really was off the road, so I would rather not have to do it again. The one months arrears is better than the 2 months I was expecting!
