Is it better to live in town or near college

Hi there. Moving to Dublin for the first time to do a masters in dcu in sept. Have discussed living near the college and in town although am swinging towards the latter.

The reason I would prefer town is no taxis for nights out and buses are plentiful for dcu, but is it too far to be worth it?

Any experiences shared would be great

Close to shops (Tesco etc), close to town 10-15 min walk away, most buses from there go to DCU or u could walk it in 30 or so mins.

I guess it depends on how much socialising you're going to be doing. Town sounds more appealing to me. Bus should take no more than 15-20 mins and you'd be going against traffic in the mornings. The area around DCU is pretty dull, particularly if you've no mates living there.

I will be living with a few friends so won't be too bad.

    Thanks for all the help

well your going to have to pay for a bus pass instead so which will probably even itself out unless you intend to go out to town every day of the week....

taxi back to dcu will only cost 3-4 euro max if you have a full car so it's not that bad really so don't use that as a deciding factor really

Monthly bus pass costs €78. I'd recommend living near DCU, would be cheaper too and I don't really think you'll be having many nights out if you're doing a masters.
