Im looking at buying a 03' 1.9tdi passat.http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2064519. What are yer thoughts on this car. I have a 94 hatchback corolla at the moment so it should be a nice upgrade. I think its a nice looking car with a spacous classy interior. I will be doing mostly town driving with the odd long journey now and again. How many miles to the gallon does it generally give. Ive heard there meant to be a miser on diesel.Thanks.

Would a petrol not be a better choice considering you will be doing town driving mostly?
Regarding this particular car, the fact the test is out in July and the 150k on the clock, I would pass.

Low miles, no mention of test though.

This might be over budget, tested 2013, taxed till sept and low mileage

'03' vw passat. tdi (red i)' - bottom spec then

'150,000 miles' - which is a fair few

'110 bhp never remapped or abused' argueably it began being abused the second he put on the mega jumbo alloys and HID's

    'tested till 7/11

    will fly trough test'
    -

'no tax' - there's another 600 quid to spend before you even start

'semi bucket seat immaculate interior spotless sport interior.' - i cannot see one thing 'sports' about that interior.

'blue sidelights and xenon dips/heads' - look tacky, blind other road users, **** off.

'18'' RS6's not a mark kind on them' - apart from the kerbing you can see in the close up pic and the missing center caps

'2 brand new tires on the front and 2 60% on the back' - my money's on kumhos, triangles or wanlis

'just had full valet and service last week. mint' - mint you better believe it!

    then the punchline, Price: €4,000.

my bargepole and that car would never meet.

Don't think that model passat was ever offered with a 110 bhp engine.

Would a 1.9 diesel not be more efficient than a 1.8 petrol for town driving?

Factor in the extra service costs and more regular service intervals of a diesel car. You really should be doing high mileage to justify the purchase of a diesel imo.

Lol, €4k for an 8 year old Passat with 150k miles. That Passat should be added to the dreamer of the year thread.

And diesels are not that much better on fuel than petrols if doing short trips around town.

This looks like much better value, a year younger, higher spec, decent stretch on the NCT:

I don't think andyseadog was referring to the A6 when he said '' slick '' - rather I think he was referring to the way you got the ' plug ' in ;)
