Pedophiles

How do people feel about pedophiles?

There used to be a stigma associated with gay people (this is now gone for the most part but is still present). The majority now understand that people are who they are and that they cannot help if they like the same sex. It is now acceptable.

But if someone was to come up to you and say "I fancy pre-pubescent children but I know it's wrong" you would think they are a weirdo - correct? I find this a bit hypocritical. If the person is a good person and does not act on their sexual urges then why is there an issue? They cannot help being attracted to children even though they know it's wrong. How come, as a society, we can accept gay/bi people but not pedophiles? I understand that children cannot consent etc. etc. but if the person who is attracted to them doesn't act on it then why would it be an issue? It seems a bit unfair that a pedophile would be discriminated against over something that he/she cannot change.

Obviously there would be issues in leaving that person alone with your children but even ignoring that I am of the understanding that the person would in fact be perceived as a freak?

While obviously the acts of pedophiles should be condemned and severely punished do you think it is fair that they are discriminated against over something they cannot change? I think this is an interesting topic and hope it will be allowed to be discussed. If not a mod can PM and I will come up with another humdinger.

The legal issue with paedophiles is that their chosen partner is unable to consent to a sexual act. In no way similar to the ban on homosexuals which was based on religious morals.

    Because they're not comparable.

You proposed the case of a paedophile who doesn't act on their urges and how they would be shunned by society - well they're not gonna be telling people what their preference is are they?

OP that is a seriously fúcked up view of the world. Seek professional help.

Having sex or sexual thoughts about people of the same sex =/= doing the same with or about people not of legal age. Simples.

    IBTL.

Woah! I'm not. I'm suggesting that pedophiles have a stigma attached to them today like gay people used to. I think anyone with a brain accepts gay people these days and rightly so. The problem with pedophiles is that the people they like can't consent so they can never act on their urges. What I'm asking is if they are completely innocent people (i.e. never acted on their urges and have no intention to because they know it's wrong) why are they discriminated against? If someone told you they were a pedophile you would immediately be taken aback and be like "creepiest creep that ever creeped" but the reality of the situation is that they DIDN'T chose to have sexual feelings for children; they just do.

Technically, I think you're right, although I would feel the urge to smash a paedophile with a hammer, in theory if they never act on their urge/download porn/buy used gym shorts, I'd never know.

Please don't turn into a meaningless discussion as to why pedophiles and gays are different. It is obviously down to the consent of their sexual partner and the fact that a child is not mentally mature enough to consent. I was simply using gays as an example as they used to be outcasts in society years ago for their sexual preference. Pedophiles have now taken that throne and I'm wondering why should they be different as long as they don't act on their urges.

Yeah it's bad out of context. I was in no way grouping pedophiles with gay people lmao. I was simply referencing those who were outcast previously due to their sexual preference, much like pedophiles are today.

If someone told you they had a strong and constant urge to take an axe to people but so far had never acted on it you would be immediately taken aback as well. What's your point?
