Business Idea

    Hi,
Just looking for some feedback/advice. I have an idea to set up a mobile trailer at my local train station car park selling tea/coffee. There's no facilities there at the moment offering this. I'd be looking to get the main business from commuters going to work. Just wondering would the train station / Irish rail let me set up there, would the car park be owned by them or the local council?

    Thanks.

Iarnrod Eireann own most of the "train station car parks", and if they dont, the council would obviously be in charge..... I am no expert in this type of business but I guess you would need a casual trading license and public liability insurance. I think you would also need a cert from the HSE.
The food safety authority should be able to help.(www.fsai.ie) ;) Best of luck with your venture!

There was a couple doing this at the Donabate train station last year. Iirc they had to cone to some deal with the station that included profit sharing and cleaning the station of any cups.

They're not there anymore and don't have the van anymore either. I don't know if it was financial reasons or otherwise that they packed it in. It was one of those red franchise coffee2u or something vans and I know you have to pay a fee back to the franchise so that could have also have impacted them.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Those franchises seem a lot of money so I'd just be using a trailer and get equipment etc. myself. I suppose the next step is to just ask the train station and see what they say.

You will need to speak to the stationmaster if you want to set up on Irish Rail territory. If you want to set up outside the train station then you would have to go the the local council. However local councils tend to only allow street trading in designated areas. I contacted the stationmaster at my local train station with this very idea and he refused without explaining why; just said he would not be interested. So hopefully you will find a more business friendly stationmaster who would consider an offer from someone to set up a coffee beverage business as a service that would improve commuters travel experience.
