Policy on spoiling episodes from the US.

Why is it that some people feel they have the right to spoil everything that happens in an episode just because it's been broadcast in the US?

Let's face it, most/all of these people who have seen it already are using illegal methods to get it. I suggest putting a policy in place so that people are not allowed to spoil episodes that have not been shown in this country yet.

If you don't want spoilers, don't click on the thread that has (US) ***SPOILERS!!!*** in the title.

    Simple.

So we're not allowed to talk about the latest season of Breaking Bad even though it ended a year ago?

Not unless it's marked as US spoilers. The Game of Thrones series for example isn't marked like that.

Admittedly, that topic has "HBO" marked on it. But I don't know why people would be so inclined to see it one day sooner anyway before we're even supposed to have it here.

Because it's nicer to watch things when you want to instead of waiting for some arbitrary time just because some other people get narky?

It's not hard to avoid threads with (US) ***SPOILERS!*** in the title, and it's also not hard to start threads that specify ***NO SPOILERS PLEASE!*** (Season X) if you want to discuss seasons of shows that aren't currently airing.

Did you consider PMing a mod about that thread no?

Rubbish. Just mark the thread title clearly and that should be more than sufficient: "U.S. Pace [**SPOILERS**]" should be clear and, if you disregard that and complain afterwards then seriously, tough.
It'd be easier if there was a dedicated forum, with one thread per episode but, in the absence of that, it should be okay to talk about US episodes that have aired with a thread that's clearly marked.

It seems your issue is with the Game of Thrones thread - if you don't want it spoiled and are watching it as it airs on Sky Atlantic, then don't read that thread for the 24 hours prior to it being aired on Atlantic... I think the thread is titled aptly - no one else has ever seemed to have a problem with this here before - and for the record, the majority of posters in the TV forum on boards will watch shows at a US pace, so this policy you're suggesting, would really irritate the majority of users who post here...

    OP,

Our policy on spoilers in the Charter:
    • Just to be completely clear on the use of spoilers:
      - If a thread title has the word "Spoilers" in it, then it is OK to discuss the most recent episode (or older) without using [ spoiler ] tags.
      - If you have news about a future episode (from spoilerfix, ausiello etc.), then most people don't want to know (no, really - they prefer to be surprised by major plot developments and twists).
      - If you feel it should be posted anyway, please use [ spoiler ] tags (to give people the option of reading them or not). Also contextualise the spoiler by saying what it's about outside of the spoiler tag (Spoiler about Season Finale, Spoiler about Character Exit, etc.)
      - Links to interviews, show news etc. are OK (people can decide on whether or not to click them).
      - Posting Youtube clips of "next episode" promos is also OK in the TV forum (people can decide whether or not to watch them).
      - Bear in mind that some show-specific forums in the TV category have their own rules about where promo clips can be posted. Please check their charter if you are not sure.

It's tried and tested and keeps the forum running smoothly. And because of that, it's not gonna change anytime soon.

    Closed!
