Hi folks me & my partner + 1 child are moving house in next few weeks Carlow area it says the Maximum is €600 we are entitled to! Does this mean we have to find a house thats €600 or less or can we rent a nicer house for say €700 ???
Because either way we will have to pay €26pw toward our rent
If anyone can give us this answer, kindly appreciate it

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/supplementary_welfare_schemes/rent_supplement.html

The rent paid to your landlord (that is, your contribution plus your Rent Supplement) must not be above the maximum rent level set for your county or area. The maximum rent level for your county is set by the Department of Social Protection. However, the Community Welfare Office may set lower rates within these limits. There is a maximum rent level for each area. If your actual rent is higher than the local maximum, you may be refused Rent Supplement entirely.

When the Community Welfare Officer calculates your of level Rent Supplement they will reduce it by €24, this is because you must pay at least €24 towards your rent. You may pay more than €24 because you are also required to contribute any additional assessable means that you have over and above the appropriate basic SWA rate towards your rent.

before you move to carlow you need to speak to your current cwo, tell him/her your plans, he/she might give you contact details for the corresponding cwo in carlow. otherwise,

i would not make definite plans to move until i had firmly established any entitlement to rent supplement in carlow.no, you cannot look for more expensive accommodation 600euros is the limit.
