How about a multi effects? Gives you the option of playing around with loads of sounds (wah usually included), then you can specialise and buy separate pedals as you go.

Boos ME-25, any of the line6 pocket pods, not sure what the state of the digitech RP series is these days but I had one for bass years ago and they were ok.

if you have a computer try this, allows you to record but even forgetting that you can get any sound you like from the modelling software, lots of youtube stuff on different settings for different sounds

oh and buy it in your local store;)

Your main manufacturers around that price would be digitech (rp series) zoom, boss (ME series), line 6 (pod series). You could pick up a behringer multieffects for less, but have a search for some old discussion threads here, they aren't the best quality.

I currently use the boss ME-25 which meets my limited needs perfectly.

They usually sell for around the same price in shops (I got mine in xmusic for less).

I think getting into amp and effects sims might be a bit too much for someone starting off with effects, it can be a right pain in the bollix from my experience :P

Just pick up a cheap multieffect, for 100 quid you can get a Line 6 Pocket Pod, get it off adverts.ie for around 50 quid,

    thanks for the suggestions lads

to be honest im trying to stay away from usb stuff, trying to keep it real like..

Personally a decent delay pedal is a great starter pedal. However a cheap multieffects (e.g. zoom 505) can be picked up for 50€ and will keep any starter amused with its range of sounds.

If you just want a single effect go for a delay. They are very usable but you can get some crazy sounds from them. I'll often spend ages messing with mine.
Wah is ok but it's really easy to overuse it. I got bored of mine and only plug it in every now and again.

would the Line 6 Pocket Pod and boss ME 25 be almost the equivalent of amplitube only that its solid state ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,738 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

amplitube's solid state too, you can hardly have tubes in your computer

sorry i mean the amplitube software :)

i dont really know what im on about lol ,is the amplitube software basically the same as the Line 6 Pocket Pod and boss ME 25?

Yeah more or less. Amplitube sounds better, but it's more expensive and can take a bit of effort to setup, especially if anything goes wrong. With the POD it's kind of a plug and play, you literally just have to plug the guitar in, and put in your headphones or out to your amp and you've got sounds. Same with the ME 25 more or less.

well i have amplitube but it wont work with the amp,i got an amp to get away from amplitube but im very limited with it

i have used amplitube before with a basic behringer interface,i liked it,if i could use amplitube with the amp id be fine,is this possible?

at the moment i have my guitar plugged to the amp then amp to pc and thats it

id like to get amplitube working then but it wont work

    should it?

Multi-effects pedal will keep you going for aaages and give you an idea of what kind of effects you like and what works for you.

That way, if you decide what works for you, you could later decide to buy a dedicated stomp box for that type of effect.

Otherwise, a Boss DD-20 delay pedal is the bees knees. Lots of delay types and works as a Loop Pedal too! :)

Yeah technically you could. If you plug your guitar straight into the interface, and then the output of the interface into the amp it should work.

A multi-effects would be much easier though, and then if you were to jam with friends or in a band you can use it pretty much anywhere with your amp.

thanks man,i sold the interface though thinking i wouldnt need it after i got the amp :o

ive just been messing around now with amplitube and it seems to be working ok without the interface,it didnt work the few previous attempts

sounding great now,may not need to invest after all :)

I had the older 505 years ago and it did the job fine. Nothing spectacular, but easy to use. And you get the expression pedal for your wah!

Watch out for tax on that. Customs charge around 25% extra on top of that 135.

Yeah you're still gonna get done by the tax man for 25 percent more than likely, and there might be a handling fee on it also around 10 euro

It's possible it could've been marked as a gift, or the package undervalued by the seller to get it through, or else it was just a bad day at the office for customs?

I've been done a couple of times for guitar pedals and camera gear.

Yeah pretty much. You might get a looper 2nd hand for around 100 quid if you're lucky. Although, you could get a 2nd hand boss multi effects pedal with a looper built in and a bunch of other cool effects, and just run it through speakers or headphones. The ME-70 is the one you'd be looking for, it runs around 180 second hand, 270 new.

ok,well i asked the seller to mark the vox as a gift,he said no problem

i've never been charged by customs on stuff bought from abroad and i have bought a fair few items that cost a nice few quid

The looper is my most used effect / tool without doubt - great fun and good practice for both rhythm and lead
