Hey guys, just got a letter from GMIT to attend interview for the course i applied for last year.
The course is Computer and Electronic Engineering.
My question/general wonderement is, basically, what to expect in this interview?

Will this make or break my application??
What do i bring to the interview?? CV? Certificates?

Ive been out of full time education for a few years now, as 'mature student' may infer, but have completed a few part time IT courses recently (CompTIA IT technician, Cisco CCNA, Adobe Dreamweaver, and self studying Javascript and jquery) Im hoping these will help me secure a place in the course.

Any and all help would be hugely appreciated.

ps.anyone tell me what to expect in this course?

Interview wise I can't help you. But regarding the course when I did it the first three years consisted of three main areas hardware, software and maths.

Hardware consisted of building various circuits using IC's and discreet components and at least one main project per semester.

Software consisted of C/C++ and assembly (I think the C/C++ had been dumped down to Java). There was also projects involved in this to. Fist year the project was just software on it's own, but from second year on the software and hardware projects are combined into one big project.

Maths consisted of Maths, sorry can't be of much help here as it's the part I remember the least :D

When I did my mature student interview in GMIT 5 years ago it was very relaxed and informal, they just asked me a few questions about myself and why I wanted to do the course. Unless things have changed dramatically it's nothing to worry about.

i have to go on monday. sounds informal enough as it is an interview and information session. they didn't give me a specific time to turn up for interview (unlike other colleges i applied to) just 9:30 or 1:30 so presumably there will be a few people there, and we will do the information part of it then perhaps be called in one by one for the interview portion. although i don't have a clue!

ya i got a letter to go in at 9am or 1pm, so im gonna go to the afternoon session id say.

i was the same (im a guy) wondering what to wear?!? think im gonna go with jeans and shirt inside jumper dealio.

from what ive gathered, from replies here and other people ive spoken to, its gonna be an informal affair. info session and called indivdually for interview id imagine, just as @hdowney said.

ive applied for computer and electronic engineering, and computer and electronic systems. i really hope i get a place.

    good luck to everyone ;)

yea i am gonna go in for 1:30 (my letter said 9:30 or 1:30) - although a big part of that is there is no way i was getting up at like 5:30am or earlier to make it to Galway for 9:30! (I live in Wicklow and will be driving across tomorrow!)

The interview is to find out why people are applying for college now at this stage in his/her life...ie being a mature student and will they be committed to the college course. From what i found out interviews will be conducted by a 3 person board and is informal, no suits etc required. Basically there is 15% placement for mature applicants of all the college courses and they want to find the most deserving, committed people to accept for the places thats about it.
Oh and then there is a info session for all your questions. Good luck to everyone.
