    Does anyone know about oil/gas subsidies in Ireland and how they impact price of car fuel vs carbon tax??

    http://archive.greenpeace.org/comms/97/climate/eusub.html Do these subsidies affect fuel prices? or just in relation to energy suppliers? also looks like it is old data, and much has changed since?

    I know other countries subsidize fuel significantly but I'm not finding a clear article on it in relation to Ireland.

    It doesn't say what it considers a subsidy, so its hard to say how accurate they are.

    One could view certain social welfare expenditures as subsidies.

    $ 32.4 million
    direct" subsidies refers to government spending; tax reductions (ie taxes not collected) and research and development funding

    - Does this mean the reduction in duty on Agri and Marine Diesel and home heating oil / aviation fuel / ESB fuel ?

    it also works out as about €5 per person ?

    without knowing where the figure comes from makes it meaningless
