exhaust problem avensis

    Hi all,
    I am clueless about these things so need a wee bit of advice. I noticed a nasty noise coming from my 05 avensis when ticking over or reversing. I initially was concerned that it was coming from the engine. On closer inspection i noticed it is coming from the exhaust. I checked underneath as best i could and found the exhaust to be firmly in place but there is a thin metal hood/guard or plate/cover(sorry for description, best i can muster) placed above the exhaust that is loose and is causing the rattling sound. What is this and what purpose does it serve? All the metal surrounding one of the screw/bolts that secures it has been completely eroded and it is only due to it resting on the upper side of the exhaust that it is staying in place. Any ideas? Is it serious?

    May just be loose mounts,they are cheap got them done on my 04 avensis with other jobs as i could hear the rattling underneath,it was the exhaust against the heatshield.
