I'm not entirely sure what you're looking for, but you could transfer your media to a large hard drive, including your DVDs. Ripping the DVDs will be a time consuming process though. You can use something like the Popcorn Hour or WDTV to watch stored films / TV shows on your TV.

My plan is to put all my DVDs etc on one unit and hope to connect same to my TV,then allowing me to open the list and pick a DVD to watch or CD to listen to.Would one of the systems you mentioned allow me to upload my collection and also store them?Hope this explains better.

There might be cheaper, and or more elegant solutions, but you could get one of these: http://www.memoryc.ie/products/description/Midte_MDT_MC1080_HDMI_Full_HD_1080P_Media_Player/index.html

And then plug a USB external hard drive into it, like this one:

    http://www.memoryc.ie/products/description/1TB_Seagate_FreeAgent_Desk_External_Desktop_Hard_Drive-USB2_0_/index.html

Rip your music and DVDs using a PC and store the files on the external hard drive then plug the HD into the media player and plug the media player into your TV, using a HDMI cable, prefereably, then use the remote to access and play your media.

Yep, I think we're talking about the same thing. Like I said though, it can be very time consuming to transfer films/TV shows to a hard drive.

That's similar to my set-up, only I have a WDTV. The advantage of the more expensive Popcorn Hour device is that it can stream the media from a PC over a wireless network.

I'd just make sure that whatever media player you get can handle all the video and audio codecs properly.

Finally got the hard drive,LaCia 2TB, and the other unit from "memory c".To speed up the transferring of the dvds,is their good free software around to compress everything.
