    hard to know when they dont give the weight of the coin. Ask them the weight and then multiply it by the spot price of gold. If its less buy it if its more leave it as most of the british sovereigns on ebay can be bought at the spot price.

    That may be the case for British Sovereigns but not for these Irish gold coins, you will not get these for the spot price of gold. Their value has increased and you can expect to pay around 60 euro for them now. Anyway maybe he wants an Irish coin!

    The issue limit is significant when considering the Central Bank of Ireland commemoratives. Check out the issue limit. To have a chance of significant appreciation the issue needs to be 5000 units.
    I don't have the info to hand, but the Central Bank web site may have it available. If not try calling the CBI and ask them. Or try irishcoinage.ie (not sure if it's up to date on this stuff, always worth a look anyway).
    CBI web site/info should also be able to inform on the actual gold content of the coin which whilst being significant in deciding its value is not as important as the issue limit.
